HYDROUS OCEAN EDUCATION KITS
With support from the National Geographic Society, and collaboration from selected schools and museums, The Hydrous (an ocean education startup where I work part-time) has begun to create an Ocean Education Kit that will introduce youth to the oceans, providing them with both direct experiences of this typically inaccessible environment as well as an understanding of coral reefs — their basic biology, geology and ecology.
This kit will be full of demonstrations and hands-on investigations that take full advantage of the visual resources that The Hydrous has gathered on expeditions across the globe — still images, coral models created using photogrammetry techniques, 3D prints of corals, virtual reality footage, photo spheres (panoramic images) and more — and that build on the scientific and educational expertise of The Hydrous team.
As a designer for The Hydrous, I have led the design process through all iterations of this ocean education kit. The design process included brainstorming possible interactive learning activities, testing these activities, graphic design, package design, and more.
